My Little Restaurant

Set up a grocery store or restaurant in your daycare or classroom. Write a letter to parents encouraging them to collect empty food packages, cans and other food containers for this activity.

Make fruits, vegetables and meats out of paper maché as an art activity. Have older students or siblings participate in the set-up and pricing of the food items and talk about their favorite foods. Use the activity to explore new foods and provide tasting experiences. This activity can be used to develop reading skills, math skills and learning about occupations.

Go on a field trip to a grocery store or restaurant and allow children to get a “behind the scenes view”. Plan tasting experiences during the field trip to create excitement about nutritious foods.
